Spotted another case of the Google AI overview misleading people with fake information and attributing it this time to PC Gamer. A quote from the E33 devs about using AI is falsely attributed by the AI Overview to the Blue Prince creator. Saw this over on the bad place (Twitter)

Pretty disappointed in both @humblebundle.com and especially in @girlswhocode.bsky.social. Please teach girls how to code, don't push them into generative AI. That won't build their skills. Prioritize foundational programming skills and awaken their interest. "Tired of long days writing code"???

Finding myself having to go to chrome://flags more and more lately to disable annoying AI features. The worst part is they're always so intrusive. Companies know those features can't exist without being shoved in your face.

I find it interesting how often people will try to prop up gen-AI as a great tool for indie devs when the reality is, many indie devs don't want it. It feels more like an excuse to try and push a tool people don't want.

Not surprising that Borderlands 4 ended up being my most played game after writing up the collectibles for IGN haha. Not shown in my Steam Replay here are the 125 demos I played. And there are still plenty more I want to check out.

Regarding the indie game coverage conversation, I'm just thinking of how many indie-focused media sites have shut down over the years. And that's from before Google nuked us all.

yeah the harsh reality is that we do take a chance on small games no one's heard of a lot more often than anyone thinks we do. but literally no one reads the articles, which then reinforces to the powers that be that they're not worth doing. I don't know how to solve that problem!

Far from the first time Google is using AI to make up information and attributing it to websites, ruining their reputation. I've seen this a few times with gaming guides I've written where the AI overviews are outright wrong while citing me. It's frustrating.

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea
