Being the director has been a blast, the mechanics for Draw Steel rely on ramping up the power of abilities rather than the tension of ramping down and running out. So every new encounter or round of combat lets both sides flex a little more. I LOVE how this mechanic works.

Taken in isolation, none of these things are unique to draw steel. But I don't think I've ever played any other RPG where we all felt like a team first. Like each person is trying to serve the music, instead of trying to show off what a great player they are with an extended solo.

We leveled up last week in my Wednesday night game, and almost the entire discussion about what powers we wanted to pick? Was about how each power synergized with everybody else.

The philosophy of "Our turn over my turn" is strong with Draw Steel.

In tactical RPGs we often see the "how do I optimize MY hero" discussion, which certainly happens with Draw Steel, but I have also seen a lot of people say stuff like, "If you really wanna optimize in DS, you should focus on the party not the individual." That was by design, and I'm glad it works.
