We need universal basic income. It will function as a cushion for people so that losing a job or not being able to find one doesn't mean zero income, and having basic income will also better enable finding or even creating a new job. Also, AI is trained on all our work. We should all get our share.

Can anyone confirm this? It supposedly just happened within the last 2 hours and have been searching after finding this on Instagram. Hopefully true.

BREAKING: Marshall Islands becomes the first country to launch a Universal Basic Income program. Every resident (about 33,000 people) will receive $200 every 3 months. This works out to being about 11% of GDP per capita. If the US did that same percentage, the UBI would be about $770/mo.

The only alteration I'd give... technology has been disrupting things since the 1970s, and we should have started basic income then. It is better to start ironing the bugs out before the tidal wave actually hits. But still, the more voice to it, the better.

Whether you think it's bullshit or not that companies are using AI to not hire people, the impacts on the economy point to a need to stimulate demand soon. For J-Pow that likely means lower interest rates, but that can only go so far. We need to start seriously talking about at least a small UBI.
