Average wage growth for workers is now at the slowest pace in 5 years — and could soon be eaten up by inflation. Meanwhile, CEO pay continues to skyrocket through the stratosphere. Imagine what our economy would look like if worker pay grew like CEO pay.

For 1% of GDP, $175 billion, you could lift all Americans out of poverty through Universal Basic Income. This is entirely doable with political will, benefits everyone across society, and actually leads to declines in alcohol and tobacco consumption. Full Video here:

I wish every citizen with less than $5 million in assets and less than $1 million in annual income would read Tax the Rich by the Patriotic Millionaires. Universal basic income and health care and everyone gets the start we all try to give our children.

The fight for democracy isn’t just about who gets to vote—it’s about whether the government those voters choose has the power to act. And that power comes from taxation. Our stance? We should be the ones who shoulder the largest tax burden in order to preserve our democracy.

We need to stop measuring the economy by how wealthy the top 1% are doing or by how much the stock market has increased. Instead we need to start measuring a country’s success by its standard of living, its access to healthcare/education and its the levels of homelessness/poverty.

In 2022, the wealth gap between Black and white families was more than $1.4 million. Why is that? Among many (!) other reasons, because Black workers were excluded from key provisions of FDR’s New Deal. Learn more in our latest Closer Look:

Every person deserves to have the means to be independent and have the autonomy to take care of their own needs. Community and building support for each other is so meaningful, but being at the mercy of others to survive, no one wants if its not a choice. This is why we need UBI.

In case you missed my latest Substack, it's a collection of the evidence from recent guaranteed basic income and unconditional cash pilots focused on homeless populations. As Bluesky knows, of course it works, but still, it's good to have evidence like this on our side to support our demand for UBI.

The evidence from Vancouver to Denver is undeniable: When people in crisis receive money, substance use goes down, employment goes up, and homelessness ends.

Unfettered capitalism relies on fear to control people without using fences or cattleprods. Fear of starvation, joblessness, illness, homelessness. Pretty paint on a slave shack doesn't change what it is. To those who oppose the concept of a universal basic income, show them this.

Here's our take: if all our country's economic success is floating to the top, we should be ashamed. When the concentration of wealth is in the hands of a select few, it is not a measure of success for our country.
