Over the past 36 hours, East Somerville residents have been asking me: What’s going on at Foss Park? I spent the better part of the day yesterday untangling multiple renovation efforts. The work is good and welcome, but I’m now calling on DCR to meet with residents to discuss plans.

On Wednesday evening, I attended a deeply moving Holocaust Commemoration at the Tremont Street Shul in Cambridge. Our guest speaker was Lev Igolnikov, who as a young boy fled thousands of miles from his home in the Soviet Union when the Nazis invaded in 1941.

Delighted to witness a performance of the world-famous The Platters in the House Chamber this afternoon as we continue to vote on a series of bills related to the availability of epi pens, limitations on police use of drones, rare disease screenings, and prohibitions on robotic weapons, etc.

Today, I met with the House Conferees for The PROTECT Act to advocate for the strongest version of the bill to advance quickly from the House-Senate conference committee. This is our opportunity to make it clear once and for all that Massachusetts will resist the ICE crackdown in every way! ✊

Charles River Task Force in full feedback mode Recommendations have been made for how it can improve equity, environmental justice and other areas of its processes. Next step: a draft report, likely in mid-June.

Councilor Al-Zubi and I visited with residents at Rivermark Apartments in response to the horrific mass shooting that occurred in front of the building last week. We connected folks to resources and let them know they’re not alone 💗 we also visited with workers at Dunkin, empanada and gas stations.

It was important to be in community to acknowledge the severity of this event as we do our best to support our neighbors Thank you to Cambridge DSA for organizing and inviting me to say a few words. 🕯️

Quick update from the final hours of the FY27 House Budget debate — the final round of votes is now underway. In the past 24 hours, House Dems have rejected numerous GOP amendments, including efforts to effectively overturn the MBTA Communities Act and new impose voter identification laws.

I was honored to present my constituent Denise Cosby with a citation as she received a Special Recognition Award from the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance. Thank you Denise for your work with the Just In Time Initiative and for your courage as an advocate for families impacted by loss.

On Day 1 of the FY27 House Budget debate, I’m battling seasonal allergies and a slew of Republican tax cut amendments. We’re in the process of considering some 1,737 amendments to the proposed $63.3 billion budget this week.

Yesterday, I walked and participated in the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center Walk For Change; hundreds of local residents turned out to raise funds to support the free services BARCC continues to provide for thousands of survivors, their families, loved ones, and community members. 💜🧡

Last month, my office organized a meeting with Cambridge Youth Hockey, FMC Ice Sports, the City of Cambridge, and Sen. DiDomenico’s office to discuss the need for continued capital and operational improvements at the state-owned Simoni Skating Rink.

Today, on Earth Day, I am proud to endorse the Plant Based Treaty to encourage governments around the world to come together to redesign policies to promote plant-based foods and more sustainable, healthy food systems.

I’m getting reports of ICE activity at Somerville District Court in the past hour. Details remain unclear, but in this moment, any federal immigration activity is presumed to be illegitimate. The PROTECT Act, which recently passed the Mass. House, would do more to keep ICE out of our courthouses.

News from the State House this week includes the “Chapter 90 bill,” a new, $200 million line item to support housing production, the release of the FY27 HW&M budget, the Housing For All legislative caucus, a social housing conversation at the Kennedy School, and the Charles River Task Force.

Yesterday, the House passed a ban on social media accounts for kids under 14. I support the intent — but I voted “No” because the legislation didn’t include best practices for data privacy or data minimization. It would enable Big Tech to retain your driver’s license and biometric data indefinitely.

The Mass. House just voted to ban social media use for kids under 14. I support that goal — but I voted No because the age verification provision would allow big tech to keep your government ID’s and biometric data indefinitely. We need to pass a Data Privacy law with data minimization principles.

Was delighted to meet with constituents from the Massachusetts Association of Physician Assistants, the statewide organization of PAs to uplift the PA profession and improve access to healthcare. We discussed their legislative priorities to expand access to care and the need for systemic reform.

The Massachusetts House is set to vote on a ban on social media accounts for children under age 14 and on requiring parental consent for ages 14 and 15. I wholeheartedly agree with the need to hold big social media accountable, but I am concerned about unintended consequences. Link to bill text ⬇️
