ICE and Homeland Security appear to be abducting lawful residents based on racial profiling. This is un-American and making our community less safe.

They stated they had no probable cause. This would appear to be an unlawful, unconstitutional kidnapping — based on racial profiling.

UPDATE from EAST SOMERVILLE: first one federal agent says this man is “lawful” — but they took him into custody anyway. They produced no warrant, stated no probably cause, and when pressed, reportedly said “you look like the description of the problem” in reference to the man they have now abducted.

This morning, masked and menacing Homeland Security agents abducted one of my East Somerville constituents. Thankfully another constituent captured this video to document the presumed kidnapping. I’m in touch with colleagues at all levels of government as we work to gather more information.

Yesterday, I joined the Criminal Justice Reform Caucus to meet with the DOC Commissioner and tour the Women’s Prison in Framingham. We pushed back on the Governor’s plan to spend $365 million on a rebuild of the facility. We also had a chance to talk with several women who are incarcerated here.

Renters pay four months’ rent just to move into a new apartment: first, last, security, and a fee for a broker they didn't hire. $10K upfront for a standard one bedroom. That's ridiculous. I'm banning mandatory renter-paid broker fees in Massachusetts.

I was stunned by this proposal. This morning I reached out to the Governor’s staff and the Judiciary Committee to express my concern. I’m a proud co-sponsor of legislation to impose a moratorium on new prisons.
