Remember that there is a legitimately elected president of Venezuela: Edmundo Gonzalez. He won the election in 2024.

None of this makes American military intervention justified. This whole thing is illegal, insane, and risky. But it's also done. The only option now is for Venezuela's duly-elected government to take over. If Trump makes that conditional on oil concessions, that's a whole other realm of bad.

After Bush ousted Noriega — which was also incredibly risky, illegal, and needless interventionism — America helped uninstall Noriega's military and plowed development money into the country. I pointed out at as an example that the rise in autism diagnoses *also* correlated with the beginning of federally-mandated folic acid fortification of wheat flour.

2. However, the Hispanic population was not seeing as marked of a decline in NTDs as other groups, like White women. 3. So CA wisely decided that requiring folic acid fortification to corn masa flour (used for stuff like tortillas) would be a good strategy for bumping up folate levels.
