I have started using historical gaming in the classroom. Finding the right game is typically the hardest thing to do. The rules need to be simple enough for students to learn quickly. It also needs be paired with readings the students will do during the course of the semester.

As an air power historian I have to wonder, why do people keep offering me tank posters and decorations for my office? Yes I do put them up after vetting them. The fun part is watching students trying to figure out the tank posters with the air power books and try to make sense of it.

Well I just turned 39 today so that can’t be me. Just because a lot of WW2 nerds have been reading books about the war since high school doesn’t mean you can’t find something new to write about and change history. You’ll find all kinds of stuff about WW2 in the archives that hasn’t been published.

It’s still not a bad idea to learn the ancient art of map reading. A good way to spot tourists is to look for the people walking using only their phones. When I’m traveling I try to read maps and memorize my routes so I’m not constantly staring at my phone which makes me a target for thieves.
