Last night’s dinner was a Flemish stew called Carbonnade Flamande. This was a really fun adventure to make—a little floral, tangy, and sweet (and traditionally served over fries or mashed potatoes, which caught my eye!). I’ll definitely make it again!

I got a new bread cloche for Christmas and there’s absolutely been a learning curve using it, but I have finally got it sorted. I’m not sure if it will woo me away from my cast iron pot forever, but this did make some VERY pretty results.

Not to be boring, but we got Souper Cubes and have been cubing all our leftovers and this is amazing. Everything is portioned. I can basically shop my freezer. Normally, we meal prep 2x a week, but now we can meal prep LESS. Incredible.

Do early reader Star Trek books exist? I’m shopping for my nephews (trying to introduce them to fandoms they haven’t been exposed to yet) and I’m struggling to find early reader titles for Star Trek (my nephews are 5/6 years old).

Jalapeño cheddar sourdough hostess gift for tonight’s party (the focaccia, crackers, the other half of the dog treats, and the cocktail syrup are also in the car on the way to this party).

A sourdough “croissant” loaf for my family’s white elephant exchange. They definitely come out unusual-looking each time I make them! This loaf has a whole stick of butter grated into it.

I saw one of my Christmas gifts early, but I was a good noodle and wrapped it and put it under the tree. I really want to start reading it though. 😭

obviously not the major driver of his health concerns but it is very funny to read A Christmas Carol as an adult and realize that when tiny tim first says "God bless us, every one!" he's a severely malnourished child and they've given him a cup of hot gin

Holiday cooking update: made an excellent cocktail syrup last night. Promptly dumped all but 2oz of it all over my counter. So now I have to do it again lol. I have stopped counting how many crackers I've made. It's a lot. I'm making 15-24 a day until Saturday night and I've been at it for days.

Crying on my couch because of TNG. “I Borg” took me out. 😭

I have dropped one of the plain loaves of sourdough on the ground so it’s just mine now and I gotta make another one. But I’m also roughly 50 crackers in, which is good.

Creme Fraiche is underfeatured on my BlueSky feed, so here he is, chilling ominously under our tree.

I made homemade Alfredo sauce last night to go with our pasta & garlic bread and you have never seen violence from a cat quite like what came from Bourbon when I wouldn’t let him lick the bowls/plates/forks.

the cooking schedule for next week is: - ~100 homemade herbed crackers - 2 loaves of jalapeño-cheddar sourdough - 1 loaf of plain sourdough - 1 loaf of buttermilk sourdough - 1 pan herbed focaccia - 2 dozen snickerdoodles - 2 dozen blueberry/pumpkin dog treats - 24oz of flavored butter

I got this really lovely cake stand back in 2018 and I hardly ever use it. But now I’m kind of using it as a weekly bakery case? I just put a new batch of cookies in there every week or so and it’s SO FUN to have them out on the counter like that.

Perhaps not one of my usual recipes, but I really love making this during the winter. Quartered orange, 1/4c cranberries, 1tsp cloves, a few cinnamon sticks and allspice berries. Throw it in a pot and let it simmer. It makes your house smell lovely.

Made myself some caramel Brulée syrup for my coffees this week (or, realistically, for the next few weeks…may have made a LOT of syrup)

This is not exactly a pretty recipe when I make it but the flavor is SO good 😭

It’s my husband’s birthday weekend! I made him his favorite coffee syrup (brown butter pecan) and am working on a rare breakfast treat—brown butter cinnamon roll focaccia. 😋 My kitchen smells amazing!
