I am searching for "medieval" in the Epstein files. Nothing of note yet. Some "stay at this medieval place," some "time to go medieval on my uncle" (from two people not JE), amusing numbers of times when "medieval" is a typo for "medical."

So, remember that Episcopal bishop in New Hampshire that told priests to get their wills in order because “we are entering a new era of martyrdom"? I ran across historical precedent for that today. It's from a radio transcript
@rns.org
produced about a Lutheran bishop in Denmark… …in 1943.

Oi Hollywood/BBC/Netflix/etc, we still haven't got that big budget 10 hour long episodes historically accurate tv drama series about the Black Death. Only one of the biggest most dramatic events in history ever... Come on, do your thing. Must have Sean Bean in it though.

because, this is not some minor thing -- it's the defining political question of our era it also was never a close call -- if you got it wrong, you were denying some incredibly obvious facts about the world. unless you've done some self-reflection you almost certainly still are

Arriving at the church for first Eucharist this morning and glanced up through the churchyard to see this (almost) full Snow Moon shining through the trees, just before setting. A blessing from St. Brigid on her feast day.

Judge Biery signed the order with a photo of Liam and two bible verses: The first is "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." The second is simply "Jesus wept." Astonishing thing for a judge to do.

I think it’s really important when you get something wrong that you fix it. We are in an age of parasocial journalism where everyone is talking into tiny microphones. People have their faves and they trust what those faves say. If you get something wrong, fix it. It makes you more credible.

It's something women are doing, so of course our "allies" are going to criticize us for made-up reasons. It's like all the people nominally on the left who decided making fun of the women's march was a good use of their time, instead of actually opposing Trump 1.0. Absolutely useless individuals.

In other words, the liberal arts has provided an all-you-can-eat, buffet style approach to education while the “skills-based,” careerist approach that now seeks to replace it is more like being force-fed spoonfuls of tepid gruel.

I find it all part of a broader symptom in the US of thinking "anything that makes lots of money is good and pure and anything that doesn't is useless." The best things in life aren't quantifiable, especially not in dollars.
