I try to remember that whenever we talk about how much of a fucked up horror show the world is, what we mean is that the world is full of good people being wronged and beauty being destroyed, that we risk losing all of it—not a denial of the good in the world but its affirmation.

There is nothing that kittens love more than a good fairy story, and no tellers of tales compare to the Sisters Grimalkin. Sisters Grimalkin is, of course, a play on Brothers Grimm, with grimalkin being an old word for elderly female cat often associated with fantasy and witchcraft. #art

A reminder that the deadlines for USA and Ontario orders are upon us. After today for US and 17th for Ontario the chance of getting an order delivered for the holidays greatly diminishes.

The first sovcat poster on the theme of the environment based in part on a poster from the late 20th century. It plays of course on the old antagonism of cats and dogs with the cat bonking the industrial dog in the nose stopping it in its destructive tracks. #art

In our world, fishing is one of the most dangerous jobs. In the cat world, those who go out on the waters are considered exceptionally brave. The International Fishercat Union supports these cats on the water and the land and helps coordinate eco-stewardship. #art #union

Imperialism - Scourge of Peoples is based on a human-world poster from the early 70's.

The second #art poster inspired by the works of Walter Crane, "Labour is Entitled" (2024) is another three cat portrait commission. The slogan itself was first used in the early 19th century. It features three workers in industries vital to cats: fishing, biscuit making, and catnip production.

At first, I was uncertain whether to feature a large crowd in this three-cat, portrait-poster, and it was a lot of work but really worth it in the end. The crowd represents a diversity of jobs, furs, abilities, ages, and cultures in unison.

Two unrelated postcards in my collection that tell a story together. 🤕

I'm taking some time to work on tasks and requests that have needed some attention. One of these is getting some new shirts in the shop. The first batch are now up. Also, after a long hiatus, Canadian customers can order shirts again from the shop.

Finished this commission yesterday. This one got me thinking about political imagination and what it would take for such a transformation fur sure.

Of course Empty Bowls (2023) is about that enrichment of owners at the expense of workers and their communities. But it's not just about getting a fair day's kibble and a great gag. "Our life" points to the existential dimension of work that is both too little and too much to live well.

Another colourful addition inspired by a 1970's poster. A commission of three cats and the first on the theme of participatory soviet democracy. I like this one because, for me, the small details speak to there being a larger world behind the poster.

The second Biscuit Makers' Union poster follows the workers of biscuit making from "from field to tummy." This journey is depicted literally in the poster: starting with farm fields, through harvest, and production. A closer look at the bottom reveals a fleet of trucks ready to deliver biscuits...

I think we should use this art on BlueSky in addition to the Rockwell original.

“You need at this time especially to know that you are fit for something better than slavery and cannon fodder” (E. Debs, 1918). Some Great (Imperialist) War artworks from the last few years on this Remembrance/Armistice/Veterans Day.

Education for All - Literacy for Liberation (2021) is another sovcat commission featuring a beautiful trio.

"The Federation of Anarchist Cats - On the Grisly Front - On the Work Front - Fights For All Cats" (2021). The human world poster is based on a FAI-CNT poster from the Spanish Civil War, Federación Anarquista Ibérica - Confederación Nacional Del Trabajo, 1936.

This year's drawings were overall more involved than previous times and quite a challenge. Seeing the results makes it all worthwhile, however, and there are enough ideas to develop further here to keep me busy for another year! Many of these will definitely become posters and paintings.
