About 8% of people lacked any form of health insurance in 2024. Unfortunately that rate will dramatically increase in the coming years, from 27 million to more than 40 million thanks to Republicans who cut Medicaid and ACA marketplace subsidies

The labor market continues to soften, according to the latest
#JobsReport
out this morning from the BLS. Payroll employment grew only 22,000 in August and revisions now show employment losses for June (-13,000). Over the last three months, job growth has slowed to just 29,000 on average.

Corporate America has been waging a war against the trade union movement for a simple reason: They know that union workers earn higher wages and better benefits than non-union workers.

To me, today's jobs report is what entering a recession looks like. Could we pull up? Sure. But if we look back and end up dating an official recession that starts 3-6 months from now, this is what it would look like today - rapid softening/deterioration in the labor market.

Big news in today's
#jobs
report are the revisions. The labor market is much weaker than originally reported the last two months. While payrolls grew 73k in July, May and June data were revised down a total of 258k to 19k and 14k, respectively, bringing 3-month average growth down to 35k.

Today's
#UIClaims
data continue to show significantly higher continued unemployment insurance claims for federal workers than this time last year, up 59% for the week ending July 12 (compared to the same week last year). Hard to ignore when the divergence in trend began.

Today's

Andry Hernández Romero, the innocent make-up artist imprisoned without trial for 4 months in El Salvador by the Trump admin, is FREE. He was wrongfully accused of being a gang member because of his “mom” and “dad” tattoos, and illegally sent to El Salvador without due process.

HHS announced today they will consider Head Start a welfare program, not an education program, and will subject it to new citizenship requirements. This goes against decades of legal precedence that all children in America have a right to education. Announcement here.

🚨🚨 The Senate just funded Trump's mass deportation agenda. If the House approves the bill, the resulting increase in arrests, detentions, and deportations will cause millions of immigrant and US-born workers to lose their jobs New analysis from me

Now that Congress has passed the Republican spending bill, "[if] Trump succeeds in carrying out his deportation goals...5.9 million workers will lose their jobs over the next 4 years"--3.3 million immigrants and 2.6 million US-born workers.

Another interesting (bad) move by Gov. Lamont. This is the second year in a row he's vetoed UI for striking workers legislation. Such a let down. 👎

The day after Lamont vetoed
#UIforStrikingWorkers
in CT, the Governor of Oregon signed a similar bill into law! And the Governor of Washington State signed their version into law last month. Protecting working people has only become more urgent since the Trump Administration has gutted the NLRB.
