what i think it would be legit cool for these merch-first studios is to crank it down a bit on the plushies and make physical media editions of their cartoons with goodies inside. that's something me, a 30 year old who doesnt go to comic cons and is actually into the craft of animation, would enjoy.

the model & the culture of the youtube/NG short was "you get the thing for free no strings attached" 4 so long that the audiences got used to the cartoon being for free & the only thing you gotta buy is the merch. i can see why theres some friction about this but idk if its "unfair" to audiences.
