Been thinking about ttrpgs that would make good systems for a campaign where you don't always know who's going to show up. The important bits would be: a core team with a home base, team members go off on short missions with some kind of ending. Rinse, repeat each session with whoever makes it.

Guess I shouldn’t be surprised that Carcosa and the King in Yellow are things that exist in this book. Still having a good time with it.

So how was everyone's '25, rpg-wise? Play any new games? Finish any campaigns? I experienced a bunch of new games through my work's rpg club. The one I was most pleasantly surprised by was Good Society. The way everyone establishes relationships is amazing.

Continued Nerd Cinema 101 with the kids last night. We watched The Matrix. I don't think it's possible to fully understand what it was like experiencing that movie in theaters in 1999. I walked in with friends not knowing what to expect and left with mind completely blown.

Beacon is interesting. It takes everything you do in a typical D&D game and makes it explicit. There are two modes, “narrative” and “combat”. You’re always in one or the other. You level up after completing a “quest”. #ttrpg

I’m reading Tress of the Emerald Sea. I mostly checked it out because it wasn’t a 3 month wait like Brandon Sanderson’s other books. I was a little put off at first because the style is different but it’s grown on me. 70% done and can’t wait to finish now.

Big #ttrpg week. Started the SCP-Monster of the Week campaign on Monday, meeting with the read and play club tonight to look at Ultraviolet Grasslands, and playing my criminal in Candela Obscura on Friday.

The Monster of the Week campaign is set in the SCP universe, but that and the first mission are all I really know so far. I started by planning the whole thing out but then realized I should probably lean into the "play to find out" philosophy and just see where the players take us. #ttrpg

I've been at Bungie so long that it's easy to forget how big a deal launching a new game is. It's been a decade since our last one. For a lot of folks here this is their first Bungie game launch, and for some it's their first game ever. I need to remember to step back and enjoy the moment.

This is the runner I've been playing as. I'm more of a solo gamer in general so the stealth abilities come in very handy, except I use them to run away. 😅
