This is Sir William Ryther, a Yorkist knight who died in 1475. He was known as the ‘hero of Towton’ although what he did at the battle in 1461 remains a mystery. His outstanding effigy can be seen at All Saints Church, Ryther, North Yorkshire.

Remembering William Henry Tinkler, who died on this day in 1921, aged 82. He was a grocer, an insurance agent, & as a local Methodist preacher he officiated at 37 interments at Lister Lane Cemetery between 1872 to 1891. Buried with wives, Susannah, died 11th April 1890 & Mary, died 11th April 1930.

The tomb of William Higgs whose business Higgs and Hill built the Tate Gallery in London as well as Liberty’s and Harvey Nichols, the famous department stores. The business started off in Vauxhall. Sir Brian Hill retired in 1992 and the business was sold to a Dutch company in 1996.
