Yesterday I came across a small waterfall I had not noticed before. There was some nice foam and an #AquaticHyphomycetes community dominated by Heliscus tentaculus. Landwehrgraben in Hannover on 30.05.26.

The next not-really #AquaticHyphomycete leading me down a path. I _think_ this is likely a Retiarius sp. spore. Retiarius is a genus of fungi capturing and parasitizing on pollen. Not really an aquatic fungus, however some spores are washed into the stream when it rains. #Fungifriends

I think this may be my most obscure #FungiFriends #AquaticHyphomycetes post to date: I found this spore in sample from a branch of the Leine river in Hannover I took this Sunday. It reminded me of something.

Today I had all 3 bunched up: Tetracladium marchalianum (top right), T. setigerum (slightly out of focus in the debris) and T. breve (left). With some Tricladium angulatum (?) in the centre. #AquaticHyphomycetes

I 3d printed a bunch new sieve cups and they turned out so colorful (I used up leftover filaments). Unfortunately the new shipment of sample (urine) cups does not seal fully. I lost a sample. Who sells leaky urine cups 🤬 #AquaticHyphomycetes

Size matters - Tetracladium breve looks very similar to T. setigerum, its just much smaller. You can see it next to the larger T. marchalianum spore in the 1st image. The second image shows a T. setigerum in the same scale. #AquaticHyphomycetes

Does anyone have experience with cheaper dissolved oxygen/DO probes for water testing that come around 100-120€. I want to upgrade my field kit for #AquaticHyphomycetes but am very reluctant to spend 1k€ for a DO tester. pH/Temp/Conductivity are cheaper and medium quality would be fine for me.

Has anyone access to Mycologia Memoirs? I am looking for the species descriptions of #AquaticHyphomycetes: Matsush. Mycol. Mem. 7: 70 (1993) and Matsush. Mycol. Mem. 2: 19 (1981). Somehow it seems that nobody ever bought these or if so threw them out long ago. #Mycobookclub.

My current prototype for a self contained foam sampling field kit for #AquaticHyphomycetes: A small 3d printed sieve that fits into a (urine) sample cup and a eppi tube of FAA fixing medium. I cant carry a kitchen strainer all the time - this can live in the bike pannier. Cannot wait to test it. ☺️

Two lichens that live below the high water mark on rocky shores. Wahlenbergiella mucosa and W. striatula. Also the marine lichen that lives on barnacles, Collemopsidium foveolatum - the tiny openings on the rough surface of the barnacle are formed by the lichen.

This is basically the same stream, one branch feeding a pond/mill and going through a forest afterwards and another diverted, open, faster flowing. Different composition of #AquaticHyphomycetes with only some overlap. 1/

While I was looking for a flat or house to rent in #Lüneburg I took a break to gather some foam from the Ilmenau to look for #AquaticHyphomycetes. Its an incredibly rich sample that probably will take me several evenings to document and even more to figure out.

I (think I) found spores of 9 species of aquatic hyphomycetes in this sample. The main numbers were of Alatospora acuminata and Clavatospora longibrachiata with some others mixed in. Also some I have not seen before.

Sampling foam for #AquaticHyphomycetes is especially beautiful this morning.
