The anonymous pillar boxes generally have very small slots, onlu of use for postcards and standard letters. But at the time with several collection and deliveries a day and before telephones they were the "the communication web" for ordinary people!!

George V pillar box, Forest Hill Road, East Dulwich. There are also some "Anonymous" post boxes in East Dulwich from circa 1880, when many houses were being built there.

I have been reading Gyles Brandeth's book Somewhere a Boy and a Bear about A A Milne who wrote Winnie The Pooh. It mentions that his wife, Daphne, mother of Christopher Robin, knew Havelock Ellis.
