Every time we choose to subsidize parking we make other choices less attractive. Why would I walk, bike, or take the bus when there's an abundance of parking at every stop? This leads to people thinking that cars are the best choice, but they've just been subsidized the most.

The irony of Mayor Sutcliffe calling out “myths” over his version of “facts” is something to behold. Is it a fact that “Lansdowne 2.0 will generate revenues that *will* cover 69% of the total investment”? Or is that optimism bias? Not that I’m trying to spread misinformation here.

"And certainly the dedicated bus lane areas at Bank and Fifth are certainly going to help move traffic through the Glebe as well". We couldn't have said it better ourselves Darrell! Now why only restrict this to event days? Traffic on Bank Street is sub-optimal almost every day.

"Anything that improves transportation and makes it more attractive to people to get to the games I think we would be on-side to supporting... Your idea of having that lane bus-only lanes is really going to help in terms of before and after major events."

Today at the #lansdowne 2.0 discussion, Darrell Cox, the Glebe BIA representative, spoke about how they think dedicated bus lanes would be amazing for the project, and how it'd improve getting people to Lansdowne events. Glad to hear such support from the Glebe BIA on how bus lanes improve the area!

(4/4) The only solution to these problems is by fast and efficient modes of transportation, bus lanes would fix so many of the issues for getting people to here. We CANNOT fix this with cars

(3/4) Where exactly are more cars going to fit in this space? We need traffic officers just to keep traffic even somewhat "flowing" here. And we want to put more cars on this road?

(2/4) Here's what the QED looks like on event days. Where exactly is all of the Bank Street traffic supposed to go on here? It's at a complete standstill anytime even a moderate amount of people want to come here. Cars cannot be the way we move a lot of people to a single place!

(1/4) OCOBIA says they want traffic moved from Bank (City-owned) to QED (NCC owned) to handle the traffic for events. They realize that events are already standstill on the QED right? There's no more space to go! We need better transit access, bus lanes!

This is just one of many examples of how car-dependency is subsidized without us even realizing it. Costs like this are snuck into every fabric of our living, and yet even with all of that driving a car is EXTREMELY UNAFFORDABLE. A shame that this means fewer housing units for those who need it.

For anyone not following along on the #Lansdowne 2.0 conversation, the city is taking away funding that was supposed to go towards affordable housing (originally 50% of amounts over $39M) to instead pay for parking construction ($10M). We are literally taking money from the poor to give to the rich.

An entire day has gone by and still no release of the Lansdowne 2.0 report. Meanwhile, Mayor Sutcliffe has had time to brief the press, frame the story, and produce a feel-good video. This single apartment building contributes 2.4x more property taxes than all of these parking lots combined, in just ONE EIGHT (1/8) the space! That's TWENTY times more efficient! This apartment provides housing and is giving our city a huge surplus of taxes. We need more of this!

We heard from many groups today about the Tewin development. This is unfortunately going to be a development that further entrenches us into unsustainable sprawl. Property taxes have not and will not be able to provide long-term support for these types of developments. We have decades of evidence.

I head again today from Ottawa By-law, they're no longer accepting reports for illegal driveway expansions or hardscaping or front yard parking. Apparently there are only 4 officers for these zoning issues and there are far too many reports than they can keep up with. They need more resources.

People sometimes think Bank Street needs bus lanes only during "peak" hours. The data shows otherwise : the largest delays are during the hours outside of "peak", when buses weave in and out of parking lanes. Our city deserves reliable service all day, for all kinds of trips, with 24/7 bus lanes.

Across Ottawa, from fairs and markets to townhalls and meetings, I’ve been hearing the same thing: people are frustrated and want a new direction for our city. We need a city that works, with reliable transit, strong services, repaired roads and community centres.

And would someone be able to explain to us why we need to do "studies" to determine if sidewalks are good or not? This is the kind of red-tape that needs to absolutely be removed from any sort of decision making. It stands in the way of creating the safe and inviting cities that we all want.

Lets get it done Ottawa. We need safer roads ASAP. This helps pedestrians, drivers, cyclists, EVERYONE.

The Gladstone/Percy cycling study originally proposed contra-flow bike lanes on Percy and bike lanes on Gladstone. Now, instead of a simple left turn onto Gladstone, the proposal would have a north-westbound biker go from Percy to Flora, Bay, Gilmore, Bronson, Christie, Arthur, THEN Gladstone.

What the city expects us to do while driving our car to figure out if we're allowed to park there or not...

Here's a lovely example from a member of all of the bus bunching that occurs when buses have to pull in and out of the parking lane each time they arrive at a stop. This doesn't only affect this section of Bank, it means that your bus arrives off schedule later on down the route.

Absolutely insane and backwards how we prioritize the least efficient form of transportation at the detriment of everyone else. Not even for transportation, but for parking of all things. There is PLENTY of un-used parking spots in the garages and streets around Bank, yet driver convenience wins

This is the kind gaslighting by politicians we’re seeing more of lately. If it WERE about “building a city that makes sense for everyone” then actual EVIDENCE supports building MORE safe infrastructure that would provide MORE choices. Instead he’s lying to try to make people resent people on bikes.
