If Ryan Coogler makes you want to learn ASL please do. Take a class. Learn from Deaf/HoH teachers. It's a beautiful language and culture and not enough places are Deaf accessible/friendly.

If you read the actual text of the bill it seems perfectly boilerplate until the very last line, where it bans any mention of "homosexuality or transgenderism". This is a nazi book burning bill, plain and simple.

As a small deaf child I flat out refused to believe bunnies didn't have a noise, cos everything else did. So my hearing mum invented a bunny noise "mep mep" to give me a bunny noise. Hearing people are weird :D

This is a funny thing I'm starting to run into in the comics club I'm running at my son's Deaf school. Not only do comics writers have a lot of fun with onomatopoeia, they often use fake sound effects—words that emphasize the action, but don't actually fit. Bunnies don't go 'boing' when they jump...

My parenting book for #deafkids comes out next month. Should I launch with a night reading at a bookstore, with warm wine and sweaty cheese? Or do I throw a family-friendly party at a preschool, with a petting zoo, ASL storytellers, bouncy house and a Deaf pizza truck? I think you know the answer.

What folks probably don't understand about Joseph's situation is that hearing aids don't cut it. He arrived at CSD with a degree of language deprivation, a syndrome caused by lack of access to language, which can be devastating to deaf kids if allowed to continue through the elementary years.

This is the not-so-hidden secret of our university. Just *one* history survey section I teach generates 3x my salary for the university. And I can teach 9 classes a year!

"Artists peak at 30", "30 under 30", "by 30 you should" ridiculous. Arts industries capital craves young people to exploit and burn out. It doesn't want older artists thriving and guiding the young. It also doesn't want artists to exist. Stop letting cannibals tell you you only matter on a plate.

Love the way Comic Book Club has been going! I was pretty nervous about starting it—my son goes to our local Deaf school, so it's stretched my mediocre ASL to the limit—but the kids are reading, discussing, and making comics at a furious pace!

Bad strawberries are the bitterest disappointment.
