They stoked hatred and prejudice to score political points and show they were “doing something” in response to the attack. I see the same thing happening today with the trans community. They are politically vulnerable and the subject of attack ads and bullying. It is shameful and wrong. /2

I would like to speak up today for the trans community. You see, I know a bit of what it’s like to be politically scapegoated. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, suddenly anyone in America who had any amount of Japanese ancestry became suspect. Politicians preyed upon ignorance and fear. /1

A lot of conservatives who are predisposed with Vertical Morality are learning a harsh lesson about Horizontal Morality and the social contract this last week. I, for one, am happy to help teach it to them.

My goal for this space is to boost people and ideas that I support, and to share glimpses into my life as a Trans man birth parent in a Red State. It's a rare perspective, and people need to see the impact their actions (and inaction) has on vulnerable people in difficult positions.
