(Non-evangelical) Christian here… The most coherent explanation is: —God needed Charlie Kirk to die. —The world is full of evil people just an inch away from killing the righteous. —But any specific individual had to *freely choose* to do the killing. —So they’re still condemned for the sin.

Unless predestination theology is behind it, in which case: —God needed sinners to condemn so that God’s mercy, when shown, can be properly appreciated. —God’s sovereignty means sinners CAN’T choose better. —The righteous show God’s glory by likewise condemning sinners, like Kirk’s murderer.

American evangelicalism, politically, brings together theologically contradictory extremists. (On sin and salvation. They agree on race, gender, sex, war, etc.) This leads to some weird rhetorical mash-ups. But they’re also all comfortable with hand-waving stuff away as a “mystery of faith.”
