Onze laatste Laat-Romeinse dag is aangebroken.

My first stop as I dig up some of the communication that’s being sent. Zieten is sending messages in French to the Allies and in German to Blücher. The brigade commanders also sent messages between them and to the corps commander.

Two works stand out as foundational resources for understanding the training and employment of Black soldiers in WW2. The first, written by Prof Ulysses Lee in the decade after the war, is a landmark work because it was a volume of the Official History written by a Black scholar in the late 1940’s.

In WW1, the U.S. deployed two divisions of Black troops to France. One was broken up and given to the French. The other, poorly trained, indifferently led, and held to a higher standard than a white division, remained under U.S. command. The former distinguished itself under fire. The other did not.
