Married At Last As mentioned earlier, it took Aldarion six years to return, and even the Green Bough of Return on the prow of his ship withered by then. His reception was chilly, even by the standards of his overindulgent mother.

One would think that after a reconciliation and betrothal, Aldarion, King’s Heir as he was, would have given his thoughts to his impending nuptials (Tolkien tells us it customarily followed the betrothal in about three years).

Aldarion persuaded Erendis, who masked her dislike and fear, to sail with him to Andúnië to celebrate the hundred years of the Guild of Venturers. But, as the above quote implies, her true feelings made themselves known nonetheless.

The meeting described in the graphic was after Aldarion had been voyaging on the seas for fourteen years, and Erendis feared that Aldarion had met an untimely end, or had decided to stay in Middle-Earth. She even asked the Queen’s permission to leave Armenelos, as to avoid suitors – ...

As promised last week, we will now begin covering the tale of Aldarion and Erendis, and we figured the beginning is a good place to start. Aldarion (originally named Anardil) was born in S.A. 700 in Forostar, and was the son of Meneldur, fifth king of Númenor, and his wife Almarian.

🌳🌿 Oiolairë 🌿🌳 We talked about the Land of the Fragrant Trees, Nísimaldar, last week. We’d like to showcase one of them in particular, to celebrate all that is green and growing, this week: the tree called oiolairë. The name is Quenya, meaning “Ever-Summer”.
