Yesterday, Minneapolis gave us hope. That’s what they’re trying to kill: the will of a people who are willing to fight them.

It's part of the reason I stopped watching the Nazi channels. It's necessary work but once that horrific stuff stops shocking you... your spirit has suffered an injury that needs healing.

I am not one to use "spiritual" lightly or vaguely, and I don't even mean it in a specifically religious sense. I mean that the human spirit-- the things that are beautiful and good about us-- suffers injury when exposed directly to graphic nonstop depictions of violent cruelty.

We know what is happening at this point. You can listen to people you trust who have watched, and amplify their narrative descriptions. There is no need to traumatize yourself, and frankly I think there is a spiritual danger in habituating yourself to this violence.

A rule of thumb I use that may be helpful for others: I watch these videos ONLY when I plan to write about them in a way that I expect to be useful, *or* if I think it's necessary to inform my organizing work so I can help keep people safe. I *do not* watch just to witness.

National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation. Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

We can build beautiful things in the darkest times. I’ve seen this all over the world, in Kurdistan and the Darién Gap and in the mountains and deserts of the borderlands. You can do it on your block now, it’s not special or hard, it’s how we are supposed to be and it’s inside all of us.

Someone told us her dad who fought in ww2 would be proud of her. Other folks want to be able to tell their kids that they did the right thing. Everyone’s getting to know their neighbors and working on ways to keep each other safe and share their skills.

We’ve seen older folks holding down street corners in 0F cold. People getting groceries for their neighbors and setting up mutual aid food distros. lots of people with all kinds of politics are genuinely united against the occupation of their city. I’m sure we will only see more of that tomorrow.

Hard to convey how much you can tangibly feel the love and care for one another people are showing here in Minneapolis. Even in the few days we’ve been here more businesses have come on board with the strike and we've met people from every walk of like doing the work to keep each other safe.

Really really hoping to get to PDX by May or June. Could be more like July if I’m really unlucky. That would likely put hip repair sometime between July and September. Which will mean dealing with this immobilizing injury for near to or as long as a year long before treatment 😭

All with extremely limited mobility and extra pain from the torn labrum in my hip, which won’t be able to be repaired until I get to PDX. It’s been four months since this got really bad like it is now and it’s gonna be *at least* double that time before I can get it fixed 😭

We found another place we can live for a few months until my disability case resolves and we can move back to Portland. In the next five weeks we’ll be hustling to make that happen. So I have to move twice this year 🫠
