The peace of this new place is giving me the first little glimmers of wanting to make beauty and throw it into the world, like I used to do. Been a long time since I felt this way.

Went to Costco to pick up a prescription and um, it’s really gross outside. Indoor Girl Summer has commenced.

Discovered that my wifi extender from the old apartment just wasn’t cooperating at home, and come to find out it’s an End of Life device with no support. Welp. Got a new extender and brand-matched the router, and now we’re good. Slowly upgrading tech as we go, I guess.

The HOA provided internet is really terrible at times. I fear I may need to sign up for fios

Also got my thermostat set up - I can control it via an app, and I’ve got schedules set up to make it more energy efficient. Yesssssss. I’m feeling so many emotions right now.

Movers moved the majority of my stuff. Really quick, too: 2.5 hours, front to back. One of the HOA board helped with the elevator at the destination side. Took a four hour nap after. Got some chilaquiles for dinner. Have very slowly started to move things into place.

Bottled water is chilling in the fridge at the old place. Tip money has been procured and secured. Last minute packing and staging has been completed. About to head home. The big move is tomorrow, but I still have lots to do before I’m really done. So tired.

I triggered some nasty carpal tunnel pain, so my last push for packing has taken quite a hit. I’m not freaking out … yet. I was going to rest at home tonight, but I made myself come to the old place and pack some more. So glad I did. I not only got a lot done, but I staged a bunch of stuff.

There is a very suave mourning dove coo-cooing somewhere up on the roof or something. A lovely sound. Better than the psychotic sparrows at the old place. Chipper little fuckers.

Currently, I can take the elevator TO my floor, but in order to get an elevator down, I have to walk down one floor and call it from there. Something about the circuit board on my floor glitching out. Harder to use a cart and load more things per trip. :/

I supremely messed up a step in the slat support for my new bed, but I did the best I could to mitigate. But I’m burying the lede: I now have a proper bed in the new place. No pushing myself up from the mattress from the floor. So excited for bedtime tonight. :)

Oh thank goodness, I’m already seeing fireflies! I get so worried now when there are few to none of them in the summer. I was just walking around a park and there were a good couple dozen within sight.

Alright, time to peel these sweaty clothes off of me and get into the shower. I want to sleep right now, but not like this.

OK, I really love ending my day with a popsicle, as the sweat is drying from my skin and I feel so gross and dusty. I've been buying root beer float flavored ones, and they're so delicious. I also like working my way from the kitchen to the bedroom, turning lights on and off as I go.

I will be so glad when this move is over.

I'm just so tired. Taking days off is still so hard for me, after so many years of the game dev hustle where being at the studio for a disgusting number of hours every week was one way to demonstrate a willingness to ship a game to the detriment of your health. Taking time off gives me anxiety.

Supposed to be some crazy intense weather today, and I can tell you that the wind is definitely getting intense out there. It's been whistling through the windows, and I'm hearing random clangs and thunder. It's not doing much for my productivity on my day off, I tell you what.

This is the second time this week I’ve heard a huge explosion sound near my new place. What the what? I had thought maybe it was some sort of clatter or impact from freight cars, but this one just now really sounded like combustion more than collision. Weird!

And, speaking of control over my own environment, I now have my Internet up and running. This means that when I get all my stuff moved here officially, I can set up port forwarding and whatnot on my Xbox so that I have open NAT. This means I can once again me a medium-level menace in Halo!!

At the beginning of the pandemic, my neighbors and I settled into this unspoken (and then verbally acknowledged) agreement that Sundays were laundry days for my laundry. I did my grocery shopping in the morning, then got home, put the groceries away, and then started lugging the wash down.

I’ve been feeling so sad and upset this week, and you know what cheered me up? Tornado sirens. Because now is the series of Lasts at the old place: last time I slept there, showered there, or ran down to the basement to shelter with my neighbors and the doggos from the sirens to the all clear.

Am I happily eating breaded chicken tenders drizzled with hot honey off of a pot lid whilst sitting on my mattress which is on the floor of my bedroom at the new place? Clearly, the answer is yes.

Today has been a cycle of, pack things, organize things, sweat until it’s running into my eyes, and then sitting and cooling off and drinking water. This is the part that sucks so bad, but the more I do, the less there is TO do.

Yesterday I left work, hopped in my car, and got settled right in at the IKEA restaurant in time for a call with the attorney who is working on my estate documents. Got that done, tried to order the mattress I wanted, but they were sold out. So I drove to Bolingbrook and they had plenty.

Painters pretty much finished up today. He's gonna do touch ups tomorrow, so I am meeting him before work to walk through and take a look at everything. Craziness. Two days ahead of schedule.

One of THE smartest things I’ve done in this moving process so far is NOT move until the painters were done - who started this AM. So I stopped by this evening to check out stuff. The place is just absolutely … getting painted right now. I can’t imagine them also dodging furniture & boxes.

Went to IKEA this morning to scope out a new mattress, and ended up with a few incidentals, including a shower squeegee. :)I also got blueberry syrup to make sodas with, and I’m excited. I lerve blueberry. I am full of meatballs and pear soda.

I’ve been clearing out my storage space, and it’s been deeply satisfying to know that those many dollars will be put to better use. I took many piles of old clothes, curtains, and futon covers to the condo and threw them all into various piles. Two big IKEA bags’ worth ended up at the charity shop.

I finally told my friends/neighbors who I’m renting from currently, but I purchased a condo, and am in the process of prepping it to move into soon. I’m super excited, and it all feels unreal. I never ever thought I would have the opportunity to own. Ever.
