When SEPTA bus fares were $2 on SEPTA Key but $2.50 cash, most bus drivers seem to let cash-paying passengers just pay $2. But with fares now $2.90 for everyone, I assumed bus drivers would make people pay $3. But I’ve seen on a number of occasions where they were fine with people paying $2. 🤔

As much as I love cargo bikes in theory, there's still a significant issue in cities like Philly and NYC where there isn't safe, reliable, weather-protected parking for cargo bikes. Until that happens, I'm not leaving a $5-10k cargo bike on the sidewalk in front of my rowhouse.

My bicycle mileage so far in 2025 (560 miles) is almost the distance from Philly to Detroit. That's not a lot of miles if you bike long distances regularly but all my miles are from commuting and short slow-paced social rides. Getting on your bike almost every day adds up and makes a difference.

I was very intentional about choosing to become a member of a predominantly white church. It's a sad reality that Sunday morning is still one of the most segregated times of the week in America. There are so many ways it'd be "easier" for my family if we joined a mostly Asian church.

In a diverse city like Philadelphia, if you want your club, advocacy group, church, etc, to be relevant to people across all demographics, you need diverse representation in your leadership. There is no way around this. Otherwise, your group is doomed to be irrelevant for most of the city.

I'm scheduled to get my COVID booster on Thurs at CVS. Anyone have success/failure stories on getting it in Philly? Friend said they were not allowed to schedule it and insurance may not be set up to cover it yet? Surprising bc I started getting notifications from pharmacies to schedule it.

One of my neighbors always remarks "nice day for a ride!" when he sees me on my bike. I never know what to say bc I'm usually just coming back from a quick trip to the grocery, beer shop, etc. Not exactly a "ride". Unfortunately, that's what most non-bike people think when they see people on bikes.

Does the school board consider the traffic impact of charter schools? With neighborhood schools, most families can walk to school, but charters open up enrollment to the entire city, resulting in the majority of families driving to school. The drop off lines around charters are crazy.

The weird thing about the hyper-fragmentation of media is that someone super popular in a very small niche segment of the population can be absolutely irrelevant and meaningless to the vast majority of the population.

I walked through a farmers market in downtown San Jose this morning. It’s really weird that the tents were covered on the sides with windows. Never seen that before at farmers markets and street festivals on the east coast! It feels so impersonal and dystopian.
