According to the SBU press service , counterintelligence officers apprehended a suspected agent as he was allegedly attempting to coordinate Russian attacks on Ukrainian fortified areas and artillery positions near Pokrovsk. The man reportedly tried to provide precise coordinates to the Russian military in hopes of facilitating targeted strikes using 1.5-ton guided aerial bombs. He is accused of traveling across the Pokrovsk area, photographing military sites, marking their geolocations on maps, and maintaining constant communication with his GRU handler, whose identity has already been established by Ukrainian authorities. Ukrainian security officials say their efforts thwarted the Russian plan—arresting the alleged agent after implementing measures to safeguard troop positions. The suspect is described as an unemployed local resident recruited through pro-Kremlin Telegram channels, where he reportedly left pro-Russian comments. During searches, investigators seized the smartphone he allegedly used to communicate with his handler. The man has been charged under Article 111, Part 2 of Ukraine’s criminal code—treason under martial law—and faces up to life in prison with confiscation of property.
