A hot Gundam take I have: I think the Hathaway's MS designs would actually have been pretty feasible to animate for an OVA back then. Esp. when comparing to Moriki's other mecha designs of the time. The only catch is that these designs would have seen as way too alienating and extreme for Gundam.

Kazuyoshi Katayama and Keiichi Sato, co-creators of The Big O (1999-2003), worked on Giant Robo (1992-1998) as animation director and key animator, respectively. And you can tell. Both shows have such an epic sense of scale, which is on full display in their first episodes.

An interesting read I saw on Reccoa from Zeta is that she's actually an interesting and compelling character, its just that she's lumped in with the weakest and least interesting bunch of antagonists in Tomino's Gundam.

Still thinking about how spellbinding the last stretch of Gundam Hathaway 2 is. I have qualms about how the pace of the film feels which can be attributed to the pace of the original novel itself and it being a middle chapter, but the last act is practically perfect Gundam. All original stuff, too.

Jokes aside, do find that psychosexual article analysis of Gundam Hathaway 2 rather interesting. Read a bit into the 3rd novel yesterday while I was out and was reminded of a passage. Not sure if this will fully appear in the 3rd film given how differently the 2nd film ended compared to the novel.
