Did the broccoli get made? No. Did we eat at our planned 3pm? Also no. Did we manage to keep the quantity of food made within reason? HAHAHA.

We’re 3,242 miles apart and I love seeing my adult children’s holiday tables and decorations. Our son and partner made pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, cabbage slaw, and roasted squash.

The food and house smell fantastic and I, once again, have zero appetite for it.

I feel vindicated after all the testy arguments I’ve had with British folks who insist dryers are superfluous and I enjoy laundry and hanging it out! But I’m not drying my sheets in snowstorms, July humidity, or on drying racks in front of the woodstove because we need to live in this house.

Our tradition is husband made Yule bread, bacon and eggs or quiche and fruit while we open stockings, then more Yule bread (with almond frosting) and usually whatever leftovers we made the night before, like chicken and dumplings. Boxing Day is ham, mac and cheese, salad, more bread.

•Using an electric roaster for the turkey ensures a tender delicious turkey every time with little hassle and a freed up oven. •Chocolate pies and other desserts aren’t for Thanksgiving if they aren’t harvest related. •It’s necessary to create your own traditions. •Traditions = organization.
