Today, we pause to remember the lives tragically lost on September 11th, 2001. Nearly 3,000 people were taken from us that day, including six Mainers from Lewiston, Portland, Lubec, Gray, and Gorham. Close friends lost their loved ones and my heart still breaks for them.

Political violence is never acceptable and should be universally condemned. My thoughts tonight are with the family of Charlie Kirk, those harmed today in Colorado, and all families impacted by gun violence.

I’m coming off a great week on the road with stops in Orono, Bangor, Augusta, and York County. A highlight included an amazing house party in Orono hosted by friends Emily Cain and Danny Williams, both former Maine state representatives.

Today we celebrate the birth of our nation - an enduring promise of freedom, justice, and opportunity for all. I am spending time with my extended family, including my kids and nieces and nephews. During these uncertain times, I worry about the future world all of our kids will inherit.

Senate Republicans in Washington just rammed through a budget that slashes health care, puts rural hospitals at risk, rolls back environmental protections, guts clean energy investments — and drives up energy costs. Why? To hand the wealthiest Americans yet another tax break.

What a great day to march in the Portland Pride parade with some incredible state leaders and see thousands and thousands of cheering, happy people of all ages, including so many kids, families and teens.

My visit to Skowhegan reaffirmed for me how much communities in Maine can accomplish when we work together. In just one afternoon, I had a great lunch at Bigelow Brewing with owner Pam Powers and local business and educational leaders.
