My heartfelt wish for all of you is to advocate for change so long and so successfully that, one day, allies will complain that your accomplishments kind of suck and need to be improved.

I'm assuming Dan means a multimodal transit hub - but I could uncharitably assume he meant 1,592 parking spaces and 48 bike parking spaces. Can't be sure though.

What would a child friendly city look and feel like? My mind instantly goes to safe streets, clean public bathrooms, and whimsy built into daily life. Swings at bus stops, more public art and street food vendors. Most importantly we’d need a culture of care, watching out for each other in public.

"A preliminary analysis of Vision Zero policies showed that the 17 early adopter cities experienced a smaller increase in fatalities per 100,000 population (+15%) than the other 83 cities (+40%) (Figure 2)." Fewer deaths are always better than more.

The idea that there's a perfect brand that will avoid having to fight the opposition because everyone will understand it inherently and agree with you is wishful thinking and avoids having necessary fights.

Someone in the Boards of Canada fandom paid thousands of dollars for the copies of rare, tape-only early 1990s tunes ("A Few Old Tunes") — and uploaded new high-quality rips of them today:

This is not a novel observation, and not even a new one for me, but in light of the Revive I-5 media coverage: I always find it interesting how people claim to love the freedom and mobility of their cars but really hate having to spend more time driving them.

Gotcha—let’s dig into that step by step. 1. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵, because I turned you into an amorphous lump of flesh. You’re not just immobile—you’re immortal, and you feel only anguish. 2. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺. That makes total sense—it’s a natural human impulse, and you’ve been through a lot.

i feel like the viral bus thread resonates because at every step of the way you're like "ok surely this will be resolved shortly, any second now," which seems like what all the passengers are also thinking. then the fact that the situation doesn't resolve and the bus just keeps going is an Allegory

We are in a new historical moment for the American people. Connected to a long history, yet also set apart. There are lessons from the past and there are also risks with unknowable outcomes that must be taken.
