I admit to feeling a lot of stress and anxiety from the return of "routine morning car traffic" to the quiet neighborhood walking routes that had been so calm during the holidays. Thankful for the reprieve, however.

Wow, quite a weather warning from NWS Seattle for Christmas Eve. "Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

I've said this before and I'll say it again; efficiency can be important in transportation, but it is not everything. When we need them, we should be able to choose ways of movement that emphasize ease, our sensory experiences, our connections to other human beings. It can be such a balm.

Thinking about a guy's long rant on a random Instagram page about how Seattle's signal timing is bad and causes traffic, and Seattle should emulate Los Angeles' much better signal timing. To which I wanted to reply: so your big pitch is that you want to make Seattle traffic more like Los Angeles?

This is an absolutely incredible piece of reporting that rightfully identifies the cultural barriers to safer streets. The Facebook comment quoted in the article is a remarkable commonplace sentiment. You cannot design culture away.

If one feels so strongly that AVs are necessary because driving by people is too unsafe, they should take that idea further and support reducing the need to drive in all or most circumstances. We donāt need AVs to make safety improvements, and we shouldnāt get stuck on tech fixes. Gift link

Put festive lights on the cargo bike tonight. Did not have to read any Facebook comments all day. Cooked a spatchcock chicken (I can't recommend this enough, it was perfect) in preparation for Thanksgiving. I have also developed an entire rant against turkey, a disgusting seasonal dish.
