Ironic Furry Detachment most frequently manifests as an unwillingness to step outside of the expected and constrain ourselves to only doing things once we've seen enough other people doing them that we won't stand out in a way that might be weird or cringe. And that sucks actually!

I think the reason the vibes at BFC were so good (beyond the basic tenets of a well-run con) is because it's a premise that can't be approached with the same plausibly-deniable irony as a typical furry con, leaving only the folks who genuinely want to be there rather than ones doing it "as a bit".

It feels like we've hit a point where industrial design has backed itself into the corner of having to constantly differentiate from both competitors AND previous iterations, and as a result the majority of fresh ideas are... pretty bad actually

At some point everybody decided to start wearing socks with sandals and then sandals makers caught on and now there are a bunch of sandals that aren't comfortable unless you have socks on which feels like it defeats the point of a sandal

I was so busy being mad at how the new iPhones look that I didn't even realize the Pro models don't come in black this year, which is a batshit choice IMO

Doing design for an org is like creating a ref sheet for a character but everybody REALLY wants to draw the character from memory so your job is 20% making drawings based on the ref sheet and 80% trying to convince everyone else to either look at the ref sheet or just let you make the drawings
