It's not the world's most elegant code (I taught myself TS this winter to do it), but as a general reminder: I have open sourced the code that we use for Skywatch automation, for anyone interested in monitoring the firehose and labeling based on rulesets.

I mean, maybe this is something about knowing your audience? I have 15k followers and in the last week I’ve had one post get 18,000 likes and 3300 shares, and another with 2100 likes and just shy of 400 shares. And I’m not trying, I’m just posting things that occasionally resonate for people

Yeah, I really only understand how these things work at the surface level, but conceptually it’s so weird and I think that’s neat. Good thread!

Liberal internationalism is American in the best sense. To support it is to support the ideal of America. (Fully acknowledging that both America and liberal internationalism frequently fail to live up to their ideal selves.)

You know, this is only vaguely related, but I'm very curious if there are societies which make the transition to middle-income / high-income countries in such a way that they largely skip widespread adoption of the ICE. I suppose you could argue China has already done that.

Something I'm struggling with articulating well is the following: I'm patriotic in the sense that I believe in the ideal of America, but I'm also a liberal internationalist to the core and if I were to chose my loyalties in this moment, it's to internationalism.

It's a mild and common complaint, but as much as I like cooking, I hate meal planning when Faine is away. It's challenging to scale meals down to one person and I can only eat leftovers so many days in a row.

Just read this for 1st time and liked it a lot! I think the settlement described here is just the American instantiation of what I'd have called neoliberalism (tbc Samantha is aware of the overlap and gives her reasons for preferring a different term) and I agree that it's broken down in these ways.

In the run up to WWI, socialists talked a big game about international solidarity, but largely fell in line when war broke out. Contra them, the international right, at its core, is constructed around herrenvolk nationalism, so this seems utterly predictable.
