Not the first to notice this, but something exciting I see has been a greater literacy of protest motifs since the 2010s, a graphic vocabulary drawing from a broad context that can be applied and understood widely

My main area of historical research is how authoritarian states orchestrate public spectacles. Aesthetic unity seeks a nation submissive to the state. It requires the veneer of authenticity, but must be imposed. “Collective individualism” as Sue identities it, fundamentally undermines state order.
