Bit close to home if you ask me.

I played Sparrow Warfare over the weekend and recorded my run with commentary. It’s a messy video and I get a few things wrong but I think I get across a lot of what is brilliant about the game in its current state. If you like card or puzzle games even a bit, you should check the playtest out.

There's a slight jolting in my particles sometimes (about 1 second into the video). I have no idea why #godot would not be able to handle a couple hundred particles on the GPU but something is strange.

In other words: our game runs far better on systems without plain English (or German) as the OS language now. I did a dirty hack for loading tutorial strings and it did not like random regions of supported languages. This is what a Steam playtest is for!

Quite happy with how some of the backgrounds in our game have come together. All mountains are actual mountains I photographed in Yangshuo and traced by hand. This rainforest I've only been to virtually though.

Also our game is full of bird puns. You can spot them like a twisted version of a birdwatcher. Or you can untwist and try to find all the birds – they're all based on real species!

I think we will upgrade our in-production project to 4.5. Loca in the editor and editing Windows executables without the need for Wine (and the whining that comes with it) are good comfort features.

My PS4 died a couple of months ago and I have to say that Nvidia Now is a surprisingly good replacement. I used to love the quirky Japanese games you could only play on PS3, PSP and DS but somehow that whole segment of games is lost to me nowadays and it's fine. So... Steam wins, I guess.

I still know the opening dialog of Wing Commander II by heart. And I too, blame HIM, for the loss of the Tiger's Claw, like the fool I am. (I was also "him".)

At its heart, our game is based on one deceptively simple change to the deckbuilder formula: what if you played series of cards instead of individual ones? The implications for gameplay are huge!

I should know not to participate in outrage & Discourse but sometimes it's too close to home. I try to steer clear of telling other countries what to do on social media but if it's about academic conduct and its implications I feel it's in my ballpark to partake in the shouting all around.

As a former university professor I have to say that it is shocking to see someone getting fired for their course content. If a university sides with pseudoscience instead of scientific reality then we're on the way to academic dark ages*.

Nothing makes you as aware of how small a terabyte is nowadays as rendering a 1 minute video.

I'm constantly using imagemagick and regularly fall back on sox and ffmpeg. What command line tools do you use regularly? Am I missing out on some non-enshittified software that could make my life easier?
