Deputy Montford Tadier told the States Assembly in Jersey that while we cannot choose the circumstances of our birth, we should be able to choose how we die. #AssistedDying is about respecting different beliefs and giving people choices and safeguards at the end of life.

During the States Assembly vote on assisted dying, Deputy Louise Doublet quoted a death doula describing an assisted death in Canada. A woman died peacefully, her husband holding her hand. It can be “freeing, beautiful and heartbreaking”. This issue has only ever been about choice. #jersey

Lord Frost made a 12-min speech during the assisted dying debate on his amendment that would change ‘assistance to end their own life’ to ‘medical help to commit suicide by provision of lethal drugs’. When challenged by Lord Winston, Frost replies he could take 15 mins to laughter in the chamber.

Today I pressed the Leader of the House on the progress of the Assisted Dying Bill. There is clear public support & a majority in the Commons, yet we hear rumours No10 now expect the Bill to fall. I pushed to ask the PM to honour his promise and make time to deliver this overdue change in the law.

Lord Baker of Dorking says the public knows the assisted dying bill is being filibustered by a small group of peers who are opposed to it.

Baroness Jay of Paddington says she's been involved in assisted dying debates for decades and that, usually, they have improved the reputation of the House of Lords. She says this debate is different and is causing the Lords to be heavily criticised.

"We have the public watching!" - Baroness Butler-Sloss, who is opposed to assisted dying, said the House of Lords must not block the Bill, and get it to Third Reading.

It was Groundhog day, yet again, in the House of Lords today. Despite an ever-growing chorus of pleas to peers to stop putting barriers in the way of those seeking a compassionate death, the same very small group of peers ignored these pleas. www.mydeath-mydecision.org.uk/2025/12/12/b...

Over 16 hours, only 10 groups, representing only 101 of the 1,224 amendments, were debated. While peers stuck to speaking time limits, of the 16 hours of debate, opponents spoke for 11 and a half hours. Conservative peers talked for over 6 hours, roughly 40% of the total.

Dragging terminally ill people from their death beds to appear in court to plead their case is objectively cruel. Should peers cause the #AssistedDyingBill to fail, it would be unimaginably devastating for terminally ill people and their families. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

These amendments bear no resemblance to how end-of-life care actually works. Many terminally ill people are looked after mainly by specialists, in hospitals or hospices, or after moving to be closer to family. Forcing people on their death beds to have a series of GP appointments is simply cruel.

A new amendment by Baroness Coffey to the Assisted Dying Bill would force terminally ill people out of their deathbeds and into a courtroom. Her other amendments would force proceedings to be in public and stop any legal aid funding. Horrifyingly cruel.

Lord Watts says that with the number of amendments tabled, it's clear that this is about wrecking the Assisted Dying Bill, not scrutinising it.

Baroness Hayter claims the amendments proposed "are not about making the bill acceptable... It’s a way of trying to stop our discussion and proper scrutiny." This intervention was made after nearly two hours, with only one speech by a supporter of the Bill.
