I just realized tonight it's 28 years since my wife and I met - it's not something we usually make too big of a deal about (she didn't remember either) but still worth noting. We were thrown together by my friends and her cousins and it worked!

I just learned one of my two favorite teachers from high school passed away recently. He was a great teacher and our Scholar Bowl sponsor. His approach to teaching history made it alive, and his German class was good enough that I still remember bits and pieces 27 years later. RIP John R. Siegel.

I found a 1978 Book Club edition of one of my favorite King books for a good price - I've been wanting a copy for ages. I feel a little self-consciously contrarian but I think I prefer the cut version originally published. And it works so much better with the original 1980 setting.
