#Batmanday is a great day to learn about Batman's formative creators beyond Bill Finger and Bob Kane. Jerry Robinson, Sheldon Moldoff, and, obviously, Gardner Fox all deserve shoutouts. Fox gave Batman his utility belt and batarang in the Golden Age, and then co-created the Silver Age Batgirl! Etc!

I maybe should have included this one yesterday, too. It has some of the strips intended for the never-published third issue of Air Pirates Funnies. Even though it didn’t include the 3rd Mickey Mouse installment, it did use some Disney characters, landing them in further hot water.

My #topshelffriday is a twofer of Air Pirates Funnies from 1971. They managed to get out two issues before Disney sued them into oblivion.

The Demon 11 (Aug 1973) cover by Jack Kirby with Mike Royer. I bought every issue of this title off the spinner rack as it was released, the first series I ever completed a full run on. As a 10-year-old comic book loving Monster Kid, the Demon felt like it was created just for me. Still love it!

Certain publishers to announce Jack Kirby retroactively fired for his stance on nazis.

Kirby would return to it a decade later for a good but somewhat unsatisfying ending in the Hunger Dogs graphic novel. But here ends his original vision.
