Few updates from the field! Found 3/4 original DART (?) OTC plots. No. 4 has been loosely identified so will track that down. Both supervisors came out to see all the work I’ve been doing in Abisko! I gave a tundra talk and an outreach talk at Naturum Abisko! I got a lovely book as a thank you.

Had basically all the weather possible in Abisko including the most amount of waterlogged tundra I’ve ever seen but very special to find these trees near the treeline limits.

After an absolutely heroic 38 hr journey up to Abisko we have finally made it! Looking a lot cooler than last time I was here! 🌲❄️🌳

In tundra ecosystems, roots don’t stop growing when the leaves do — they keep growing late into the season. We found that plant community type drives these below-ground patterns. First circumpolar maps of aboveground tundra biomass at 30 m resolution 💪 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... These new estimates show that in total tundra plants (above-and belowground) store around 8 Pg C while the upper 30 cm soils store ca 53 Pg C.

Throwback to spending 3 weeks sampling around Kevo, Finland as part of my 1st field season for SAFE which was very kindly funded by INTERACT TA and helped by the lovely @thale.bsky.social Also learnt that 30’C was possible at 70N! 😱😱
