Medical and public health colleagues, we need to do something about this “I have walking pneumonia” confusion. Patients say, “I hear there’s a lot of walking pneumonia right now.” What do they think it is caused by? Pneumonia is caused by bacteria or viruses. Covid is a virus. Also, mask up, eh.

I need people to understand this. Far too many folks think that if healthcare workers aren’t masking - it means the threat has passed. No - it means they’re resistant to change. It took decades to get them to adopt handwashing - and the person who advocated for it was written off as mentally ill
