I think a lot of Pokémon fans would be happier people if they gave Digimon a shot. The design philosophy and style of narrative/game suits what a lot of people want Pokémon to be, but what GF et al don't want to make it. @dataravel.bsky.social is a great account to follow for Digimon info.

The best praise I can give Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is it both has the restraint to not mindlessly change elements that made the original great, while what has been changed or updated shows that Falcom truly understands what made the original so special. The series legacy is in good hands.

This is the second fastest that a video of mine made it to 1000 views. The first was the Shudo video. As always, Sonoda proves to be a worthy successor to Takeshi Shudo.

While I'm certainly not fond of Nintendo's recent business practices, the hate for the company and its fans has become insufferable. YouTube also seems to recommend me negative reviews on other media I enjoy. It's like the platform wants to make me feel bad for finding enjoyment in things.

I miss the days of laughing with my teacher peers about weird stuff students would write in written exams. Stuff like "Martin Luther was kind of a jerks" is infinitely more fun to grade than "Let's delve into why Martin Luther was such a controversial figure" followed by some AI fever dream.

It's super liberating to be at an age of emotional maturity where I can take in and mentally acknowledge criticisms people have toward media I enjoy (assuming it's not in bad faith) while not feeling insecure about the fact I still like what I like even if I do agree with them on some level.

With Digimon shows, there's a lot of production problems and shows are noted as having a very difficult production and schedule (Digimon Savers is a big example), but even in those cases, the core of the series is often kept form start to finish.

So for the better or the worse, Digimon shows are almost always exactly what they wanted to be. This includes the things we enjoy and what we dislike in them, some more than others. I don't feel this is a situation that can be easily described as "good" or "bad", just what it is.

When I think about the complaints of that series, they are mostly about the pacing, how there's too much fighting with almost no time to breathe, the characters don't develop as realistic children, etc. Those were all choices by those in charge and what the anime tried to be.

The more I read Digimon interviews, mainly about the anime, the more I think how a lot of them are exactly what they promise to be, for better or worse. This isn't to say "everything is made as planned without changes", but rather "the general core is kept from start to end".
