We have a lot of wild rabbits running around. It can make it hard to get new trees and shrubs established. Metal wire cages help, but blackberry cuttings around the plants also work well. But you need to refresh them as they get older. Not a bad use for invasive blackberries. 🌱

I recently finished rewatching Star Trek Discovery. Good show overall. Some issues but good overall. Though I didn't like how Zora was treated in the last episode. I think they should have just left that short trek as a dream of Zora's. She even mentions dreaming in an earlier episode.

I support trans rights. You can't oppose fascism and not support trans rights. Trans people, immigrants, and so many others are under attack. You can't oppose fascism while throwing any of these groups under the bus. The only way we win is by sticking together.

There is no one "we win" button to push in this situation. Build and support your community, join a rapid response group, defend trans rights, support marginalized groups. Find ways to engage locally to support people in your community. That is the day to day way to push back against fascism.

ICE is doing a hell of a lot of harm in the Chicago area *right now.* I don’t mean to trivialize the national guard stuff, it absolutely is an irresponsible escalation, but the guard-centric convo around this really does understate what’s going on without any guardsmen.

If and when America finds a way out of authoritarianism, not only will ICE have to be abolished: All these people will need to be held accountable in a court of law for the monstrosities they are committing - those who are ordering them as well as those who are carrying them out. Every single one.

Today I got 8 plants from a local native and waterwise plant group. They promote planting plants that don't need regular watering here in western WA. This year I got a bit of a mix - 4 native pearly everlasting, 1 non-native Cornelian-cherry Dogwood, and 3 big blue sea holly. 🌱
