In street design, transit ridership, housing services, addiction support, everywhere: people as individuals are messy and complicated. Views that require all those messy individuals to somehow conform or else be punished will ultimately lead you to a real dark place.

Best reporting I've seen to date on what last week's
@airresources.bsky.social
vote could mean for Muni: cuts to free and reduced-fare programs, and a big gap in capital funding for the upgrades to the train control system.
loading . . .
A California environmental board voted to cut $202M from SFβs eco-friendly transit
Muni stands to lose hundreds of millions with changes to a state program that funds public transportation by charging firms for permits to emit carbon.

It's worse than the headline - Cubic didn't even know about its multiple AT&T accounts so didn't pay for one, which led to major Clipper outages at BART. Nearly every month there's another Clipper 2 failure. Cubic should be paying MTC and transit operators significantly for the rollout debacle.

Yes this is somehow real. The BART fare gates went down because Cubic failed to pay the AT&T bill. They had another Clipper outage last month because they let the disk fill up on the database server Just absolute clownshow stuff

Today CARB voted to defund vital Transit programs and helping corporations that are causing pollution pocket more money. Whatβs the point of CARB if theyβre in the pockets of the industry? We should get rid of useless government agencies that waste taxpayer funding

CARB has been a repeat villain in quiet wonky policy choices that actually have big consequences for pollution and getting things done in California. Two prior examples: - Dis-incentivizing electric trolly-buses - Pushing hydrogen/battery train incentives (a scam) over proven electrified trains

It's almost like I keep being right that Waymos will entrench car dependency, and then that the world they maintain is far deadlier than what we could achieve otherwise, negating any supposed safety gains from robotaxis being individually "safer than a human driver."
