On this day 1979, Arsenal condemned Chelsea to relegation again (so many times we've lost count) with a 5-2 win at Highbury. No oligarch money to bail out West London's paupers back then. Full programme on The Arsenal Collection.

I notice that the non-Arsenal football fans have moved on from wanting the rules regarding corners being changed. It seems they now want points / qualification awarded for entertainment.

OTD 1950, Arsenal wore old gold shirts for the first time in their home game against Newcastle so that the players could get used to them ahead of the FA Cup final two weeks later. It worked a treat as they won both games; "luckily" beating Newcastle 4-2.

OTD 1976 Arsenal beat Wolves 2-1 to reach the heady heights of 13th in the table. Terry Mancini scored his only goal for Arsenal; a goal which guaranteed First Division survival in an awful season. It was my first time in the Clock End.

If Man City are going to be deducted 60 points, maybe the PL could deduct 10 this season and 50 next season.

OTD 1913: the darkest day in Arsenal's history as they are relegated for the only time ever. They lost 1-2 at home to Derby with a typical display of being poor in front of goal and their only goal being walked into the net. They finished the season with just 3 wins in 38 league games.

Upper Holloway 1914 Looking at today’s cover you’ll see there’s a football connection! But there’s more to it than
#Arsenal
, the old ground here & the new Emirates nestled into Drayton Park road. Our excellent introduction takes us on a ride through the transport & theatrical story of the area too.
