Fundamentally, CEO pay is a monstrous scam; little more than a massive confidence trick, and really amounts to small groups of very powerful investors rewarding those who help them achieve their other objectives. The rest of the market is too scared to call it out.

I’ve been unable to find a study which shows that any individual CEO improve the performance of three or more companies buy more than random chance or “noise” explains. If anybody has one, I would love to find it and read it.

CEO pay is much more strongly correlated with hanging in for a long time, …. however executive impact tends to fade after about 4 years. CEO pay is *extremely* highly correlated with the pay of other CEOs on common remuneration committees.

It is possible to show that highly paid CEOs correlate strongly with: - leaving companies just before it is going to fail anyway - incurring massive debt to boost share prices - spotting companies that are due to rise back to “the mean” and joining them as they naturally rise

Fun facts: - There is no correlation between CEO pay and wealth creation in the economy - There is no correlation between CEO pay and CEO performance. - It is not possible to tell whether a specific CEO improves company performance compared to random chance
