Folks who create videos about games on the internet: I have questions for you if you'd be so kind. I'm trying to determine the relationship between traditional media and those who create videos about games and have never worked for the games press. Sharing is appreciated! forms.gle/cG3BEkGqwuoh...

The short version of my idea is this: I don't think prestige indie survives financially without a strong and influential games press. Games whose strength is their idea need people to go to bat for them, and sort of require the "gaming literati" we had in the 2010s to break even.

Recettear is featured in the CRPG Book because of the work Andrew Dice & Carpe Fulgur did - they were pioneers in bringing Japanese games to Steam, way back in 2010. Many Japanese developers only took interest in Steam after seeing a doujin game like Recettear selling over 300k units. Rest in Peace

This (and the OpenAI paper) are a must-read. Proof of what many suspected; hallucinations are a consequence of requiring a “certain-seeming” answer and the correct approach is obviously a confidence interval. Unfortunately game studies have a large volume of research how this works psychologically.

You ever just decide to do a deep dive into the Falcom RPGs? Y'know, just to see what the fuss is all about?

This convo I had highlights the difference in what "respect your time" means in games. A lot of players want to trade time for in-game progress. It's purely transactional: 1 hour = 1 progress But I want to feel like my actions matter i.e. what I do with time creates progress, not time itself.
