Working on Christmas cards right now and they are flying all across the country. I am old fashioned I guess...

Do you ever feel like you are losing interest in your main focus - weather? In some ways, that is the case for me. It could be a combination of the boring pattern and social media divisions.

When the weather is as quiet as a mouse, the most you can do is keep writing reports, do research and try to do sales. That said, if you are in risk management or the like in the private or public sector, I can help you with a product that I have partnerships with on street-level storm corridors.

For the first time ever, I'm having to get into calculus for some of the work reports I am doing. Now you see why meteorologists you see doing any kind of weather work (including on TV) often have a scientific knowledge - they need to know difficult equations. (In my case, I'm creating one...)

The Richter scale for #earthquake intensity is logarithmic. A one-point increase (i.e., from 7.0 to 8.0) represents nearly 32 times more energy released (and about 10 times stronger wavelengths). So the jump from M8.0 to M8.8 was ENORMOUS. This is in rare territory. #tsunami

One challenging aspect of my work is that it involves sometimes hours of research just to verify a few new #tornado shelter locations. I have to look it up if there's a hint of it, then look around on Google Earth AND Google Street View, often block by block. Some images are 10 to 17 years old!

One thing I sometimes wonder is what would happen if some of the big historic hurricanes - from long before my lifetime - would happen today. Some of them would be unimaginable in today's environment with far more people and development. And they could happen again.

I'm at a loss of words for the devastation after last night's tornadoes in southern Kentucky. At least 21 people are confirmed dead (according to @wkyt.com) and there are homes completely flattened. These events are the hardest ones to deal with. You do as much as you can, but it's not enough.

These are the #tornado shelters that are known to exist in the threat area. Not too many in the area of greatest concern - they become far more abundant farther south. I'll look in the morning to see if more do exist. Map at findyourtornadoshelter.com - please share!!

With more #severe weather likely later this week into next week, I'd appreciate any information and tips on missing #tornado shelters on the map at findyourtornadoshelter.com. There are over 2,200 on the map, but I would like to find out about more if possible.

One thing I'd be very happy to do is to talk with local governments about developing #tornado shelter plans and recommendations. I can write up a report for any local officials who may be interested. There are multiple ways to get such implemented - and possibly to get funding as well.

There aren't many known #tornado shelters in what is now the highest threat area (partly because basements are more common, but not everyone has them). More do exist farther south, where the threat may increase with later outlooks. This is for Monday's threat. Maps at findyourtornadoshelter.com.

As far as Monday, it looks to be a 2-pronged event. First, in the warm sector and early on, numerous tornadoes (possibly an outbreak) are likely, some significant and long-lived. With time, the threat should expand farther south and east with a squall line - damaging wind and #tornado threat.

Things are looking more concerning for early next week, especially for Monday. Indications are that a significant #severe weather threat will exist across a broad swath of the Midwest. All threats will likely be in play, including significant tornadoes. Still fine-tuning needed for specifics.

There aren't that many #tornado shelters in the threat area in the Midwest, but there are more to the south. It makes sense because there's a lot more basements, however, not everyone has them even in areas where they are more common. This is the map for Monday. Map at findyourtornadoshelter.com.

Also, I'm happy to get my data specifically tailored for local television stations and weather apps - both upstart and established. After all, we've seen in recent months a significant increase in the utilization of tornado shelters, suggesting the demand is there - if people are aware of them.

One of my biggest challenges is trying to create clientele for my services. Emergency managers are HARD to reach and connect to, and without that, I can't even begin to discuss the need for future tornado shelters.

The last 36 hours have been so exhausting. That said, the limited anecdotal and media reports suggest my work paid dividends. There was record interest in storm sheltering ahead of this tornado outbreak. I did back-to-back 16 hour days. It appears my research, work and promotion has saved lives...
