The Call for Papers for the 16th International Colloquium on Gregory of Nyssa is open! The conference will be held at Duke University 9-12 June 2026. Abstracts should be submitted by 01 October 2025.

Life update: in August, I will be the Assistant Professor of Christian History at Campbell University Divinity School (about an hour and change south of Durham, NC). I'm excited to join the wonderful faculty, staff, and student body and to share the history of the church across time and space.

past me: it would be so great to write my acknowledgements on the feast day of the annunciation, but I better not still be working on my dissertation then! present me: ... accidentally fulfilling my own dreams through procrastination

my favorite typo (autocorrect error) in my dissertation at present is: memre ––> memes. shoutout to Derek Krueger for catching that gem.

Would like to have a word with the person that included “include a series of works here” in a footnote of my dissertation. She is in trouble.

for the second time this week, a toddler has sat close to me on my flight. I just give thanks for parents who are making it through this holiday/travel season. and for other patient, helpful, and understanding passengers.

The end of this semester marks the end of my tenure as Graduate Coordinator @eacclas.bsky.social. In the years since my hire, we have lost our founder and moved back to in-person/hybrid events. It has been a long few years, as we all know.

1. Anyone who follows me knows that I am, shall we say, a big believer in hiring more religion reporters. But I wanted to take a minute to detail just one of the reasons I say that, like, all the time. More to the point: let’s pull back the curtain to explain what this kind of work looks like.

One of my favorite moments on a plane is when the captain says, “we will be on the ground in about twenty-five minutes,” and I can time it in ATW(10MV)(TV) repeated plays.
