Attitudes toward backsliding have shifted. In Aug '24, when we asked Americans if they felt the country was headed toward the end of democracy, Rs were much more likely to be worried. With new results in the first weeks of the Trump presidency, Ds are now the resigned party and Rs are optimistic.

I hesitate to post given possible misreadings, but these regressions show wave 1 (Feb/Mar '24) variables predicting support for Trump (1) vs. Biden/Harris (-1). Key finding: white respondents' anti-Black prejudice is no more predictive of candidate support in Sept./Oct. than in Feb/March.

With Fox News hosts nominated for the cabinet, I wanted to share takeaways from two recently-accepted papers w @jkalla.bsky.social on partisan TV. There's been much skepticism that partisan TV actually affects public opinion. Our findings rebut that skepticism: partisan media matters! 🧵

This year, PRL produced a monthly report series, Path to 2024. Using our weekly YouGov survey of 1,000 Americans, we covered topics from attitudes toward immigration and culture wars to resignation to backsliding.
