Looking back at my annual playlists, which I launch every January, I notice the titles have gotten darker as the years slither past.

My favorite episode of CURB may be "The Doll" from season two. Susie Essman berating Larry David and Jeff Garland for decapitating her daughter's doll while they stand dumbstruck in the driveway gets me every time. Essman willing to play that role at full volume should get more credit.

Precisely. Many decades ago CBS News was separate from CBS programming. The "suits" had no power over the content of the news. The news division was completely separate and had total autonomy to tell the truth. No longer. I wouldn't believe CBS News if they told me the Sun was shining at noon.

I'm watching a cut of Siskel and Ebert reviewing Rob Reiner films, and let me be clear that I'm a fan, but couldn't stand A Few Good Men. Ebert's thumbs-down review literally explains the exact reason I've always pointed to. Alone in my apartment, I feel privately vindicated.

Anyone trying to argue that tough gun laws didn't prevent what happened at Bondi Beach should know the guns used were evidently legally owned. In other words, what this shows is that even tougher gun laws (outlawing the straight-pull and bolt-action rifle) might have prevented many of the deaths.

Today was such a batshit crazy day even for Trump. He doubled down on his sociopathic attack on Rob Reiner, but he also declared fentanyl a weapon of mass destruction (I PROMISE you he has no idea what fentanyl is), and blamed BROWN for not catching the shooter after Kash pulled another Kash move.

Rob Reiner's entrance onto the national stage was in a role that both highlighted the nature of old white privilege hanging onto outdated, racist attitudes, even against their own best interests, and accentuated the idealistic, sometimes short-sighted, nature of youth. Revolutionary pop culture.

The Nick Reiner story reminds me of an extended family member who recently OD'd on the streets. Loving family, two successful siblings, but he refused help, or reversed course whenever he received it. They did everything in their power to help, but he either didn't want help, or couldn't accept it.

When I think of Rob Reiner, I think of Carl Reiner, who was a key figure in the evolution of television and pop culture, and of Rob being a kid on the Dick Van Dyke set, and being a co-star in a genuine cultural phenomenon. His films come after all of that for me. He was basically American royalty.

Family is hard.
