It’s been a huge week in Bogotá for the Amazon Summit. The decision to adopt the Mechanism for Amazonian Indigenous Peoples participation (MAPI for its acronym in Spanish) to bring Indigenous nations into the formal governance structure of the Amazon Treaty is historic.

Huge news from the InterAmerican Court. So much to process in the 300+ pages but the finding is clear and should send a message across the Americas and the world "States are obliged to... supervise and control, as a minimum the exploration, extraction, transport and processing of fossil fuels"

Claims that US LNG exports can be good for the climate by replacing coal (or more methane-intensive LNG sources) are greenwashing. Plus, they don't account for how US LNG can crowd out a transition from gas to renewables/electrification in importing countries.

The US withdrawal from Paris (again) is not an anomaly (not like global temps and sea ice coverage). It’s the norm. The country consistently refuses and rejects international law that would constrain its elites’ interests. Doesn’t mean we don’t need more and better international law.
